Swimming
Sea swimming can take place from either East or West Beach.
Swimmers are advised to use a ‘swim buoy’ for safety and identification.
During July and August and a few days into September RNLI Lifeguards are in attendance on East Beach and a flagged ‘safe water’ area is marked. It is advised to swim between these flags.
There is no Lifeguard service outside of these dates.
During the colder months, be aware of cold water shock, it is important to enter the water slowly to acclimatise before entering fully.
Do not swim across the Harbour Mouth, or in the Harbour or pontoon area as this is a busy commercial harbour in constant use.
Please be aware of potential drift and current that may affect you in the water and care should be given to any breaking waves.
Be aware of rocks and reefs on a low tide on all to the West of West Bay.
